First I played the piano, then a metal bread bin, played by touching it with a guitar pickup plugged into an amplifier. Applying the pickup to different areas of the metal, moving the bin nearer or farther from the speaker, pressing or muting the metal with the other hand etc causes the feedback to change pitch and and react in different ways, which, after a time, one can learn to somewhat predict, but never completely. One can never be sure of exactly what will happen as the pickup approaches the surface, and any tiny movement this way or that can change the note, do nothing at all, or...
